Prepress

The printing process involves three major steps which are; prepress, press and binding or finishing. Prepress is a term used to describe the process a document must go through before it is printed. It therefore includes all the processes and procedures that occur between the procurement of a written manuscript or original artwork and the manufacture of a printing plate, image carrier or forme ready for mounting on a printing press. Although prepress usually refers to making plates for a printing press it can also refer to preparing a document for print in any environment such as through a laser or other digital printing format. Although the steps in prepress may vary from company to company the general steps include proofreading, editing, layout, scanning and color separation. Other steps could include typesetting, markup, retouching, page assembly, plate making and converting digital files into a format used by the company.

During the 1980s and 1990s, computer aided prepress techniques began to supplant the traditional dark room and light table processes and by the early 2000s, prepress became synonymous with digital prepress. The cost effectiveness, reliability and efficiency of digital prepress techniques have led to the replacement of traditional prepress methods with digital automation to almost every part of the process. Today the role of graphic design and the prepress process have been combined into desktop publishing where instead of prepress technicians doing the prepress step and printing technicians doing the printing, every step from prepress to binding is carried out by the same company. Bay Area Graphics (BAG) is such a company. It is a company that provides print resources and offers services starting from design of your project to storage and everything in between. The company is involved with production, printing, die cutting, bindery, fulfillment, mailing and management in addition to design and storage solutions.

Who Do You Turn to When You Need A Printing Company Yesterday?

t’s happened to just about all of us – at the very last minute, the boss comes to us with a seemingly impossible demand. 500 business cards for that big seminar tomorrow? 1000 flyers for this weekend’s big trade show? No matter how much you try to explain that rush jobs and quality jobs rarely go hand in hand, there’s no getting around it – you need to get it done. Pronto. Can it be done? Can you find a California printing company who can not only meet that impossible deadline, but do it with professionalism? When you’re facing tight deadlines, there’s no room for errors, and certainly no time to get it right the second time. Fortunately, there is a solution – Bay Area Graphics. Lesley Harrison spent 20 years working in every corner of the printing industry. Recognizing the need for something different, Lesley started Bay Area Graphics.

How is BAG Different From Any Other California Printing Company?

Even when you’re not in a rush, getting a print job can be quite the hassle. There’s the concept and design, printing and distribution. Typically, this involves dealing with several groups of people – creative departments, graphics designers, print shops, fulfillment centers. While each covers a different aspect of your project, they all need to know the full picture in order to get it right. This means explaining your vision over and over again, hoping each person involved comes away with a clear understanding of what you want. At BAG, you don’t have to go through all that. You get the benefit of explaining your goals and requirements once, to someone who understands every aspect of the task. Whether you need creative inspiration or simply complete dedication to success, you’ll find it at Bay Area Graphics. This is a California Printing Company unlike any other. Because Bay Area Graphics isn’t limited to a single printing resource, we are able to access the best equipment at the best prices, enabling us to meet your needs quickly, affordably and professionally. Whether you need to design a new logo, or want to put it on something no one has ever thought to put a logo on before, we can make it happen, on time every time.
